5 Verses That Define Grace

At New Mercies, we walk with families through some of life’s hardest seasons. In those moments, what we’ve seen time and time again is this: grace changes everything. It meets parents amidst their challenges and volunteers in their weariness.

Grace isn’t just a theological concept. It’s the very heartbeat of how God relates to us. It’s also the model for how we extend love to others. Scripture overflows with reminders of this beautiful gift. Here are five Bible verses about grace – and what they teach us about the God who offers it freely.

1. Titus 2:11 – Grace Shows Up for Everyone

“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people.”

This verse reminds us that grace doesn’t pick favorites. It arrives with open arms, for every story and every struggle. At New Mercies, we believe every parent and every child deserves the chance to experience that kind of grace – unearned, unending, and completely transformative.

2. 2 Corinthians 12:9 – Grace is Sufficient

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

When parents feel like they’re failing or volunteers wonder if they’re making a difference, this verse is an anchor. God’s grace doesn’t run out. It shows up strongest in our weakest moments. Whether it’s a mom working three jobs or a Family Coach walking with her through hard choices, this promise stands: His grace is enough.

3. Hebrews 4:16 – Grace is Approachable

“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

There’s no shame in needing help. God invites us to come boldly, not because of our strength, but because of His mercy. At New Mercies, we want every parent to know they are not alone, and that asking for help is a sign of courage, not failure.

4. Romans 5:20 – Grace is Greater

“Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more.”

Our world is messy, and so are our stories. But grace is greater. It covers shame, heals what’s broken, and writes a new chapter. No matter how far someone feels from stability or safety, this verse speaks hope: grace doesn’t give up.

5. John 1:16 – Grace Keeps Coming

“For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.”

Grace doesn’t stop with one act of kindness or one answered prayer. It keeps coming, meeting every new need with fresh supply. As we support families by caring for children and coming alongside parents, we trust that God is continually pouring out what is needed, just in time.

Grace Makes Room for Everyone

In a world quick to judge, grace slows down to listen. It offers second chances, sees the good in hard places, and always leaves room for redemption. As we reflect on these verses, we’re reminded why we do what we do: not to fix people, but to walk with them in grace, the same way Jesus walks with us.
